Is there a current shortage of amoxicillin in the US, EU, UK and Germany? Compare what FDA, EMA, MHRA and BfArM report, with dates.
Germany is the only one of the four with an open amoxicillin shortage: BfArM lists a single active report, for one product. EMA marks its EU-level amoxicillin notice as resolved. I found no current amoxicillin shortage from the FDA, and no UK serious shortage protocol or MHRA/DHSC alert for it.
Approach: I searched the FDA Drug Shortages database, the EMA medicine shortages catalogue, the NHSBSA serious shortage protocol (SSP) register and BfArM's shortage reporting database (Lieferengpassmeldungen). I also searched fda.gov and gov.uk. The DHSC/SPS Medicines Supply Tool, the UK's detailed shortage list, isn't public and isn't in the sources I can search, so the UK check covers SSPs and published alerts only.

More on Germany: the BfArM database also holds 124 closed (deleted) amoxicillin and co-amoxiclav package reports. Their start dates run from December 2021 to May 2025, and most cluster in September 2022 to 2024. That lines up with the EU-wide shortage EMA dates from October 2022. Products include AmoxiHEXAL, Amoxi-1 A Pharma, Infectomox, Amoclav, ratiopharm, STADA and others. The most recent closures were two PUREN film-tablet reports (production problems), which ran from 01.05.2025 to early July 2025 [4][5]. So the ALIUD suspension is the only open BfArM report.
I can run the same check for co-amoxiclav on its own, or for other EU national registers such as AIFA in Italy, if useful.
