What is the acceptable daily intake (ADI) for glyphosate in the EU, US EPA, Codex (JMPR), Japan and Korea?

I found ADIs for all five jurisdictions, from 0.5 to 1.75 mg/kg bw/day. The US figure is technically a chronic reference dose (an RfD), not an ADI.

Approach: I searched Korea's two official ADI lists (MFDS, including its cross-country comparison table, and the Rural Development Administration's pesticide safety list), EFSA's OpenFoodTox, the Codex pesticide residue database, Japan's Food Safety Commission (FSC) re-evaluation register, and the US eCFR tolerances for glyphosate (40 CFR 180.364). Neither the US tolerance text nor the Japanese register states a reference value. For those two I used official FSC and Federal Register documents found by web search, and the figures come from search snippets.

JurisdictionValue (mg/kg bw/day)Basis
EU (EFSA)ADI 0.5Same value as EFSA 2015, but based on a different study (100-fold safety factor). From EFSA's 2023 conclusion (EFSA-Q-2020-00140) [1]
US EPAChronic RfD 1.75 (= cPAD 1.75)No-effect level of 175 mg/kg/day in a rabbit developmental toxicity study, with a 100-fold safety factor (search snippet, EPA tolerance documents). MFDS's comparison table also lists 1.75 for the US, against the glyphosate ammonium, potassium and trimesium salts [2]
Codex (JMPR)ADI 0-1Covers glyphosate, N-acetyl-glyphosate, AMPA and N-acetyl-AMPA combined (2011 note) [3]. FSC material says JMPR reconfirmed ADI 1 in 2016 (search snippet)
Japan (FSC)ADI 1No-effect level of 100 mg/kg bw/day in a rabbit developmental toxicity study, with a 100-fold safety factor. FSC also found no acute reference dose was needed. Result notified 12 July 2016 (search snippet)
KoreaADI 0.8MFDS [4] and the Rural Development Administration [5]. The ammonium, isopropylammonium and potassium salts carry the same 0.8 [6]
  • EU, other values from the same 2023 conclusion: the acute reference dose rose from 0.5 (EFSA 2015) to 1.5 mg/kg bw. The operator exposure limit is 0.1 mg/kg bw/day [1].
  • MFDS comparison table: its main glyphosate entry shows only the Korean value. The figures for other countries appear only against the salts: EU 0.3, Codex 1.0, US 1.75 [7]. That EU 0.3 looks like the older EU value and doesn't match EFSA's current 0.5, so I'd use EFSA's own figure.
  • Japan, review under way: MAFF asked the FSC to re-assess glyphosate for its re-evaluation; the FSC received the request on 25 January 2023 [8]. I found no published outcome, so 1 mg/kg bw/day from 2016 is the latest value I could confirm.
  • US source dates: the snippet didn't say which EPA document gives 1.75. The two Federal Register tolerance notices it returned are from 2000 and 2002, so I didn't confirm a more recent EPA value.
