Biocides run on procedure. Under the Biocidal Products Regulation (EU) 528/2012, an expiry postponement, an approval condition or a transitional rule can change your next step. Ask about active substance approvals, product authorisations or treated articles across markets. The answer and its research trail come together.

Biocides software for registration and product stewardship teams

Bring the question holding up your decision:

  • Registration managers: Is this active approved for our product type, until when, and under what conditions?
  • Active substance suppliers: Where does our substance stand in the review programme, and which suppliers are on the Article 95 list?
  • Product stewardship teams: Can we sell this treated article, and what must the label say?
  • Disinfectant makers: Which authority handles this product in Spain, and what does the US require?
  • Importers and distributors: What transitional rule covers stock already on the shelf?
  • Consultancies: Which authorised products contain this active in France, and what product types are they?

Active substance status by product type, with the dates that moved

Permethrin's original EU expiry was 30 April 2026. Implementing Decision (EU) 2026/336 postponed it to 31 October 2028 for PT08 (wood preservatives) and PT18 (insecticides, acaricides). The postponement gives time to assess the renewal applications.

The answer brings together the dates, candidate-for-substitution status and approval conditions. One condition requires freshly treated textile fibres to be stored to prevent losses to soil or water.

Update your tracker with the new date and the act that set it. See the permethrin answer.

Treated articles: check Article 58 before you ship

A sportswear brand wants silver zinc zeolite in an antimicrobial finish. It is approved for PT02, PT07 and PT09 from 1 March 2026 to 29 February 2036. But product-type approval is only part of the shipment decision.

The annex to Regulation 2024/2635 bars textiles treated with it under PT02 and PT09 if they may touch skin, be handled wet or be mouthed by children under 2. PT09 also bars textiles that may be used outdoors. That rules out this finish for the running shirt.

Article 58 also governs labelling. A biocidal claim, or an approval condition requiring it, triggers the Article 58(3) label. Swedish KemI guidance separates two odour claims. A claim that protects the garment is one thing. A claim that protects the wearer points to a biocidal product needing authorisation.
