Ask about additive approvals, contaminant limits, novel food status or labelling rules. One question covers several markets. Then open the annex entry, CFR section or list item behind the answer. Food regulatory compliance starts with knowing which rule applies to your product.

Food regulatory intelligence for your daily decisions

RegAffairs AI serves the people who check ingredients, clear formulations and answer customer questions:

  • Regulatory affairs: is this additive permitted in this food category, and at what maximum level, in each target market?
  • Quality and technical teams: what contaminant limit applies to this raw material, and under what conditions?
  • New product development: can this novel ingredient go into a product sold in the EU and Great Britain?
  • Supplement teams: what are Germany's notification requirements? Which authorised EU health claims exist for vitamin D?
  • Import and sourcing teams: have consignments of this commodity been rejected at the border recently?
  • Food law consultancies: repeat ingredient lookups across clients' products, with sources ready to open.

A food additive database that answers across markets

A reformulation or export decision needs more than a name on a list. It needs the status, permitted uses and conditions in each market. Ask about titanium dioxide (E171) across four markets:

MarketE171 titanium dioxide in foodLegal basis
EUNot authorised as a food additiveReg. (EU) 2022/63, amending Reg. (EC) 1333/2008 Annex II
Great BritainApproved colour; not permitted in Northern IrelandGB approved additives list
USPermitted, maximum 1% by weight of the food21 CFR 73.575
CanadaPermitted colour at good manufacturing practice levels in listed foodsHealth Canada colouring agents list, item T.2

One question, four market positions, each linked to the legal text. Open the full E171 answer and its sources.

Food regulatory compliance, from contaminants to novel foods

Contaminant limits with the conditions attached

Regulation (EU) 2023/915 sets aflatoxin maxima for pistachios sold to the final consumer or used as an ingredient. They are 8.0 µg/kg for aflatoxin B1 and 10.0 µg/kg total. For pistachios sorted or physically treated first, they are 12.0 and 15.0 µg/kg.

The answer finds Annex I entries 1.1.8 and 1.1.9. It also gives the rule for products with at least 80% pistachios and the edible-part assumption for in-shell results. It found two January 2026 UK border rejections of Turkish pistachio confectionery for aflatoxins. See the cited pistachio answer.

Novel food status for CBD

CBD is not authorised as a novel food in the EU. In England and Wales, products on the FSA public list may stay on sale while applications are assessed. In September 2026, the FSA recommended that ministers authorise the first three applications. Open the CBD answer to trace each status to its source.

Pesticide residues and labelling

Coverage built for food teams

191 food datasets across 29 jurisdictions sit in one research workflow. They include the European Commission and EFSA, FSA and Food Standards Scotland, FDA and USDA FSIS, Health Canada and CFIA. Coverage also includes FSANZ, FSSAI, ANSES, ANVISA, MHLW and MFDS.

New sources are added every week. Ask in your language and get the answer in that language. See the food coverage list.

Every claim opens the stored source document, and the research trail stays on the answer page. When a customer or authority asks where a figure comes from, show the record. Questions and uploads are never used for training. Data is processed and stored in the EU by default. Read the security details.
